Bienvenue!

Hi Everybody,

Welcome to Beautiful Carnage, a lifestyle blog dedicated to share the best tips on home styling.

I have currently been living in a rented two-bed ground floor maisonette in a leafy part of North London with my 5-year-old daughter.

However, after 12 months of living under a low ceiling small flat, on a main and dusty road I thought that it was time to move on.

Easier said than done.

With the property shortage the UK has been experiencing these last few years, finding an affordable and decent accommodation in many parts of the country has become increasingly difficult.

The capital, with its city-state like tendencies offers small properties with sky high rent prices.

I live in zone 5, thirty minutes by tube from King's Cross, in a nice area surrounded by beautiful parks and outstanding schools where the average rental monthly price for a 2-bed flat is £1,250.
For this price do not expect a modern property with spacious rooms (despite what the panoramic pictures taken by commission-hungry estate agents might show).
If a sleek and chic property is what you are looking for you should prepared yourself to spend between £1,400 to £1,500 for a 2-bed flat.

After 8 weeks of searching I finally found a split-level flat in a quiet close and 10 minutes walk from my daughter's school.

The property is in desperate need of modernization but since my monthly budget was £1,200 I didn't have much choice.

If I could, I would have bought the property and turn it into a beautiful home (or at least try too!)

At least, the landlord is allowing me to paint the walls.

Despite standing over two floors, the property is on the small side so I do need to paint the walls a light and cool colour to make it look more spacious.

I want to stay away from the usual cream neutrals and prefer to go more whites and cool greys.

Here are a few colours I am looking at for the living room and the corridor:

What do you think?

Love,

V xx
